Description

4-ACO-DET also known by the names 4-Acetoxy-DET, ethacetin, and ethylacybin is a psychedelic substance of the tryptamine class. 4-Acetoxy-DET was first synthesized in 1958 by Albert Hofmann in the Sandoz lab, a Swiss chemist known worldwide for being the first person to synthesize and research the potential psychedelic outcomes of lysergic acid diethylamide.

Hofmann was also the first person to synthesize and name the psychedelic mushroom psilocybin and psilocin.

Psilocin is a naturally-occurring psychedelic substance and the primary psychoactive constituent in certain species of mushrooms. Researchers who are looking for an alternative to psilocybin for hallucinatory results are often satisfied with 4-AcO-DET.

Chemistry background information 4-AcO-DET

4-Acetoxy-N.N-diethyltryptamine, is a synthetic chemical of the tryptamine family and structurally related to 4-HO-DMT (psilocin). Tryptamines share a core structure of a bicyclic indole heterocycle attached to an amino group via an ethyl side chain. It is expected that the substance is quickly hydrolyzed into the free phenolic 4-HO-DET by serum esterases. 4-AcO-DET contains isopropyl and methyl chains bound to the terminal amine RN of its tryptamine backbone (DET).

Like with most psychedelic tryptamines, 4-AcO-DET acts as a 5-HT2A partial agonist. The psychedelic research outcomes are believed to come from 4-AcO-DET's binding efficacy at the 5-HT2A receptors. There is very little research done on 4-AcO-DET, although some methods have been developed for its detection. 4-AcO-DET remains relatively rare and has very little documented history of research. It is highly advised to use harm reduction practices when researching this substance.
